Why are Indian Boxers Not able to Win Major International events?

The exit of Vijender Singh from amateur boxing has brought the level of boxing in India. This blog is about the inability of amateur Indian boxers to win medals at the major events.

The country which has produced boxers as good as Vijender Singh M.C Mary Kom is now failing to maintain its level of boxing. In the recently concluded World Boxing Championships,India just managed to win one bronze out of 10 events.Gaurav Bidhuri won a bronze in the batamweight category. The game which has given a good performance in the Olympics with Vijender Singh winning bronze in 2008 Olympics,M.C.Mary Kom winning a bronze in 2012 London Olympics has seen a great fallback after that. With no medal in Rio Olympics and only one medal in World Championships there seems something going really wrong in boxing.
The poor administration of the Indian boxing association is the main reason for this situation. This is also the main reason that a coach as respected as Stephen Cortalorda had to resign as the coach for Women's boxing.Women's boxing could barely take advantage of its first foreign coach before he resigned because of non-payment in his salary. There are numerous examples of such examples .When Sarita Kumari was protesting against injustice  during the Asian Games, the federation provided no help to Sarita Kumari.India gets ample of talent but the Boxing authorities do not help these boxers to grow.Take the example of Vijender Singh. After becoming a pro boxer,he is yet to loose a fight. Thanks to the training and care that he recieves.Vijender Singh's success has also helped in making this sport extremely popular in India. The packed stadiums during his fights in Delhi area clear example of this fact.Bollywood has also helped to enhance its popularity.
Finally I believe that boxing is one of the games in which India wins medals in games, there is a need to take care of the players to bringout an exceptional performance from them. Its high time that Sports Ministry starts focusing on 2020 Tokyo Olympics and boxing as prime sport which can bring medals in the Olympics.
