National Sports Day:A closer look to different sports in India

29 August is celebrated as the National Sports Day as a tribute to Major Dhyanchand. This blog will look at the advancement of different sports in India since last year.
First is Cricket, this game is as always the most popular and most celebrated sports in our country.Last one year has also been great for this sport.India reached the final of the Champion's Trophy where it lost to Pakistan. The major advancement in this sport is in Women's cricket where they have performed exceptionally.Indian Women's cricket team reached the final of World Cup where they lost a close final to England. But they managed to win the hearts of people in India.

Badminton is the game which has advanced the most in terms of performance and popularity.P.V Sindhu's silver at the Olympics,Srikant's great performance in Rio had sent a message to the badminton fartenity that Indian shuttlers are now ready to dominate this sport.Glimpses of this was seen at the BWF World Championships this year. This sport has a bright future ahead and our shuttlers are moving in the right direction.

Kabaddi has been the sports that has managed to reach the hearts of people.India's triumph in the Kabaddi World Cup last year has put a seal on India's dominance in the World Arena.I believe that there is a need to have more International Kabaddi events as this game's popularity is reaching new heights.

Wrestling has been a sport in which Indian wrestlers have shown good signs. After bronze by Sakshi Malik,Indian wrestlers have set high standards and expectation from them are high. There has been a huge rise in the popularity of this sport especially because of the two bollywood movies Dangal and Sultan. Now its time for the wrestlers to capitalise on this rise in popularity.

Other sports like gymnastics, athletics and boxing have shown some promises.Vijender Kumar has been amazing after he became a Pro Boxer.Dipa Karmakar's Olympic performance has set a tone for Gymnastics in India.

But games like football, swimming, squash are yet to make a mark. Its high time that Sports Authority of India starts focussing on other sports other than cricket. We need the associations of other sports to be as good as BCCI so that they could do good talent search and also nurture that talent. Now is the time we start looking forward to the 2020 Olympics.

Hockey is a game in which India has dominated in the past. In fact India holds the record of maximum number of gold medals in the game of hockey. The days of Dhyan Chand were absolutely golden for India as India has no match at that time.India has won a staggering 11 olympic medals including 8 gold,1silver and 2 bronze medals. But after 1980 things have not been good for Indian hockey and after 2000 India has been facing problems in even qualifying for the Olympics. The major reason for this drop is the change of rules.Hockey earlier was played on plain grounds. But after the introduction of Astro Turf grounds, the game becoming fast,Dominance of European countries in the administration made things worse for India. Not only did Indian hockey lost tournaments but it also lost its popularity from India.Another big reason for this...

Who is better Sachin or Virat?

The hot Question since past three years is Who is a better player Sachin or Virat?                              Sachin Tendulkar                                                        Virat Kohli Well its not easy to compare two people of two different generations but it still can be done because of the fact that both of them have played with each other for good 3-4 years. Lets compare both of them on different aspects-: 1.       Time periods :  When we compare the periods when these two played then they are extremely different. Sachin made his debut at a time when India was emerging as a cricketing country, when we were not the best in any of the things. Sachin came as a hope as to we could say that we hav...
