Sporting Action in 2018:A look at the major events in 2018

2018 will be an action packed year for sports.This blog is about some of the big events this year.
2018 will be a delight for all the sports fans as every sport has some exciting events this year.But I will focus on the events which happen only once in four years and are scheduled in the year 2018.

South Korea is all set to host the biggest winter olympics ever.Around 90 nations will be competing for 102 events in this edition of the winter olympics.PyeongChang will be hosting this event for the very first time.This event has already gathered a lot of attention because of its controversies.Firstly the IOC has banned Russian Olympic association from participating in this event.Those who would be participating in this event will be participating under IOC's flag.The Russian president has already opposed this descision.Also due to the tensions between North Korea and South Korea participation of North Korea is still a big question.Though South Korea has requested cooperation from North Korea.Anyhow this is the biggest sporting event this year which is scheduled from 9-25 February 2018.

Australia will be hosting the 21st edition of the Commonwealth Games.The beautiful city of Gold Coast will be hosting 70 countries who will be contesting in 275 events across 18 sports.All the Commonwealth countries except Maldives will be contesting in this mega event.Australia and Great Britan have performed exceptionally well.But after Brexit it would be interesting to see how it affects the medal tally.The mega event is scheduled from 4-15 April.


Russia will be hosting the 21st edition of the FIFA World Cup 2018.A total of 32 nations will be competing for this prestigious football event.But this year's FIFA has already posed controversies.Due to widespread of racism in Russia,it has been under the scanner.Also there were speculations that there was a high level corruption in the selection of the host country.There have been budget problems in Russian hence there has been cost cutting in this tournament.Finally everything is sorted and it would be interesting to see who wins this prestigious football tournament.This mega event is scheduled from 14 June-15 July.

Finally I believe that like last year,I hope this year also turns out to be a good year for sports.New records,new trends,new legends will emerge in this new year.
