Sports Rivalries:Rivalries that have defined the sports world

Rivalries in sports are the biggest talking points in any sport. It is quiet obvious that viewerships are sky high when they happen. This blog is about some of the famous sports rivalries.

1. Ronaldo Vs Messi

There is nothing as big as the rivalry between Christiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi Cristiano Ronaldo Vs Lionel Messi is the biggest rivalry today. All the football fans eagerly wait for this contest. This is clearly evident the viewership statistics of Real Madrid and Barcelona match popularly known as the El Classico. If we look at the stats of the players we will understand why this rivalry gathers most attention.Since 2007 Ronaldo has scored the maximum number of goals in 6 seasons while Messi has been the highest goal scorer in 5 seasons. In 2013-2014 season both of them scored equal number of goals. Interestingly in last 10 years no other footballer has able to match the class of these two players class of Ronaldo and Messi. The fan following these two footballers receive is unmatched. Though Ronaldo is more worthy as per brand value but that is hardly something football fans see while comparing these two athletes.

Roger Federer Vs Rafael Nadal is the match which the whole tennis fraternity keeps on waiting. The quality of tennis when these two players play is unmatched. Both players have played matches which are unforgettable. The 2008 Wimbledon final between the two is regarded as the greatest tennis match ever played. Their dominance on this sport can be understood by the fact that Federer and Nadal are number one and number two on total number of Grand Slams. Federer has won 19 grand slams where as Nadal has 16 grandslams to his name. Federer ,who is widely regarded as the king of this sport, lags behind only Nadal in their head to head. Interestingly these two players are one of the oldest on court(Federer is the oldest on court)  but still both of them are number 1 and number 2 in rankings.Even when nobody was expecting them to win after a lost injury run, both of them managed to sweep away all the grandslams in 2017 which included the epic Australian Open final between the two. In terms of competence it is difficult to distinguish them.Though Federer leads most of the records but one must consider the fact that he has played more tennis than Nadal. But one thing where Federer is ahead of Nadal is in terms of brand value where he is ahead with quiet a margin.

Lin Dan Vs Lee Chong Wei is the most epic badminton rivalry that exists in the badminton world. Both the players have dominated the badminton world for over 5 years. They have played against each other in three consecutive Olympics out of which two were finals. If we see the statics we would know that Lin Dan has beaten Lee Chong Wei in 26 occasions where as Lee Chong Wei has managed to do so only 12 times. But on 90% occasions both these players have player three set matches. The margin of the matches is so less that it is almost unpredictable who would win the match. But seeing the records one thing is for sure i.e Lin Dan handles pressure much better than Lee Chong Wei.May be because Lee Chong Wei carries the burden of whole Malaysia where as there are many more Chinese players who keep on winning tournaments. There are many exciting matches these two have played.I believe that 2012 Olympic Finals is above all the other matches. The reason being that both players were on their peak, the occassion was big and both these players pulled out a brilliant match.2010 World Championship Finals was no less where the match ended after a nail biting deuce. Both these players are great ambassadors of this sport and whenever these two players are against each other the viewerships are sky high.

Finally I believe that such rivalries are very necessary to keep the sport alive.Though there are few more rivalries which exist in sports but I do not feel those match the excitement of these rivalries.

  1. Rivalries are good for sports but to some extent. The rivalry between real madrid and Barcelona made football matches more exciting but it should not create differences within a country.

Ashes 2017:The clash of the Titans

The most awaited test series of the year,Ashes is back with Australia and England battling one more time. This blog about the team analysis of both the teams and who stands a better chance this time. This year's Ashes series is a very different contest all together. Both the teams have a bunch of new players and debutants. This makes the series even more interesting.Talking about the visitors i.e England, the whole batting line up revolves aroung two players Alaister Cook and Joe Root. The whole team is a lot more dependant on these two players. The top order of England having the likes of  Mark Stoneman,David Malan,James Vince is difficult to predict as these players don't have much experience. But the strength lies in the lower middle order of England where there is Moeen Ali,Jonny Bairstow. Both these players have a decent average of 35+.But it would be intersting to see how Moeen Ali plays in the fast and bouncy pitches of Australia. He got exposed to short balls when England ...

Who is better Sachin or Virat?

The hot Question since past three years is Who is a better player Sachin or Virat?                              Sachin Tendulkar                                                        Virat Kohli Well its not easy to compare two people of two different generations but it still can be done because of the fact that both of them have played with each other for good 3-4 years. Lets compare both of them on different aspects-: 1.       Time periods :  When we compare the periods when these two played then they are extremely different. Sachin made his debut at a time when India was emerging as a cricketing country, when we were not the best in any of the things. Sachin came as a hope as to we could say that we hav...

How has Indian badminton managed to reach great heights?

This phase of badminton is the best phase ever in Indian badminton. This blog is about what badminton has done right to reach this stage. Last two years have been exceptional for the Indian badminton players. From a hint of glory in men's singles to the dominance in women's singles, badminton has grown a lot as a sport.P.V Sindhu,K.Srikant are among the best known faces today in India. From Olympic silver to back to back superseries titles, hints of dominance of Indian badminton can be sensed. But when did the fate of Indian badminton change? Badminton has a great connection with India. It is believed that badminton started in this very country. In the 1980's the world saw a great badminton player Prakash Padukone. One of the very few known sportspersons at that time. The All England champion had set a tone for other coming badminton players at the time when sports(that too badminton) was hardly considered a profession to be taken. After that in 10 years there were a few good ...
