Spirit of sports:Derek Redmond in 1992 Olympics

Starting with a new series i.e Sporting Moments, the first one needs to be an event that is one of the biggest display of sportsman spirit. The 1992 Barcelona Olympics is the most appropriate one to start the series.

Derek Redmond is a British runner who used to compete in 400m event. He broke the british national record in the 400m event in 1985.He was one of the favourites to win the 400m race in the Barcelona Olympics. He already had won a gold in Tokyo and and silver medal in the Rome World Championships.Infact he had clocked the fastest time in the first round.
In the semi finals,he started the race pretty well but within 250 m he pulled his hamstring and eventually was not able to run.Now unlike any other athlete he did not just stopped at the point but he started hopping towards the finish line.

The organisers immediately arranged a stretcher but Derek was determined to complete the race.At the same time his father and coach came to his help. But he convinced him that he wanted to finish the race. With extreme pain and agony the father son duo marched towards the finish line.

"We started our carrier together an we will end our carrier together.".After finishing the race Derek bursted in tears along with his father. But they recieved something that even the 400m champion would not have recieved a standing ovation from the packed stadium.

The incident one of the greatest moments in sports and undoubtedly the most memorable of the 1992 Barcelona Olympics.I still can't forget what Derek Redmond said
"I came here to compete, not to quit."

Can Indian Hockey bring back its golden days?

The national game of India has been out of color for past few years. The big question is can hockey (Indian mens hockey)bring back its golden days in India. Hockey is a game in which India has dominated in the past. In fact India holds the record of maximum number of gold medals in the game of hockey. The days of Dhyan Chand were absolutely golden for India as India has no match at that time.India has won a staggering 11 olympic medals including 8 gold,1silver and 2 bronze medals. But after 1980 things have not been good for Indian hockey and after 2000 India has been facing problems in even qualifying for the Olympics. The major reason for this drop is the change of rules.Hockey earlier was played on plain grounds. But after the introduction of Astro Turf grounds, the game becoming fast,Dominance of European countries in the administration made things worse for India. Not only did Indian hockey lost tournaments but it also lost its popularity from India.Another big reason for this...

Who is better Sachin or Virat?

The hot Question since past three years is Who is a better player Sachin or Virat?                              Sachin Tendulkar                                                        Virat Kohli Well its not easy to compare two people of two different generations but it still can be done because of the fact that both of them have played with each other for good 3-4 years. Lets compare both of them on different aspects-: 1.       Time periods :  When we compare the periods when these two played then they are extremely different. Sachin made his debut at a time when India was emerging as a cricketing country, when we were not the best in any of the things. Sachin came as a hope as to we could say that we hav...
