The condition of Formula 1 in India

Formula 1 popularly known as F1 is one the most business oriented sports in the world. This blog is about this sports and its condition in India. Formula 1 is a sport which has largely been neglected in India. There are very few Indian drivers who have managed to made it to the professional arena. To name a few we have Narayan Karthikeyan,Karun Chandhok. In fact we do not have enough racing tracks.Buddh International Circuit is the first World Class racing track. Hence the problem starts at the very grass root level,no racing tracks. This sport requires a lot of money in the form of the fuel expenses, tracks, maintainence of the cars.Hence without sponsorship it is next to impossible to play this sport. The problem is that there is only one Indian racing brand i.e Sahara Force India, that too is operational from United Kingdom.Hence if we look at the steps of becoming a Formula One driver there is problem at each and every step. The first problem is the non availability of racing tracks.E...

Does Height Matter in Sports?

Height of an athlete is one of the key factors for players.Through this blog I would like to address this ever long question. Usain Bolt,Dirk Nowiztki,Kobe Bryant are one of the most famous athletes. The common thing amoung them is that they are also one of the tallest players in the world. This brings us to a very famous question i.e Does height factor give advantage in sports? My answer is Yes.It definitely gives a lot of advantage  in sports like.In fact there is no sport in which height does give an advantage. In cricket it helps the fast bowlers to get an extra bit bounce. In basketball and volleyball it helps in reaching the fast at greater height  In racket sports like badminton and tennis it increases the reach on the court In athletics it helps taking longer strides and hence increases speed From the above argument it seems that the sports is very much biased towards the taller players.May be to some extent but not completely. For example in same abo...

Ashes 2017:The clash of the Titans

The most awaited test series of the year,Ashes is back with Australia and England battling one more time. This blog about the team analysis of both the teams and who stands a better chance this time. This year's Ashes series is a very different contest all together. Both the teams have a bunch of new players and debutants. This makes the series even more interesting.Talking about the visitors i.e England, the whole batting line up revolves aroung two players Alaister Cook and Joe Root. The whole team is a lot more dependant on these two players. The top order of England having the likes of  Mark Stoneman,David Malan,James Vince is difficult to predict as these players don't have much experience. But the strength lies in the lower middle order of England where there is Moeen Ali,Jonny Bairstow. Both these players have a decent average of 35+.But it would be intersting to see how Moeen Ali plays in the fast and bouncy pitches of Australia. He got exposed to short balls when England ...

ATP World Tour Finals 2017:As it happened

The most dramatic tournament of the year ended up with debutant Grigor Dimitrov of Bulgaria winning this tournament for the very first time. This blog is the analysis of this tournament. Nobody in this world would have predicted Dimitrov to win the ATP World tour finals this year. But he suprised everyone by defeating David Goffin of Belgium to clinch this title at his very first attempt.I really do not think this have ever happened in the past. The tournament was a roller coaster ride.First of all Nadal had to pull out from this tournament in the league stage itself which gave Pablo Custa a surprise entry to the championship. It was also the first time semi finals was contested with three debutants.Above all Dimitrov winning the championship.Roger Federer who was expected to win the championship in the semi finals after losing to David Goffin inthe semifinals. The way Goffin played against Federer it was predicted that he would eventually win the tournament. But in the finals Dimit...

Why is there a big difference between men's and women's version of sports?

Every sport in this world has one thing in common, the men's version of the sport is more competitive, more watches and of better quality. This blog is about this very fact and reason for this unbalance. Before starting I would like to name a few sportsperson along with their records.Serena Willam's has won 23 grandslam championships which is four more than what Roger Federer has won.Mitali Raj is the highest run getter in all forms of women's cricket.A record that Sachin Tendulkar did not have(he did not play T-20).But my question is in the comparison who is better known or popular. If we simply make a list of sporting legends or the most influential sportsperson,I don't think there would be many women. So does it mean that women are less capable than men or women put in less effort or women version of sports are less exciting? I think the reason is something else.Sure there is a huge level in the standard of the games men and women play. But secondly we ourselves a...

Senior National Badminton Championships:A tournament of potential superpower

The 82nd edition of senior national badminton championship concluded a few days back. Some of you would be thinking why am I writting an article for such a small tournament. There is a good reason behind it.This blog is about this championship. After a long time all the top badminton players came on a common stage to play the senior national badminton championship. It was again PSPB(Petroleum Sports Promotion Board) who won most of the events.Over the years there have been lots of debates as to why the top badminton players do not compete at the senior national championships.I was one the strong believer that they should have played the senior nationals.I am happy to see that these players player the nationals this year. Now what inspires me to write this blog is the results of this championships and the way players performed. The most exciting result was Saina Nehwal beating P.V Sindhu. This is the time when P.V Sindhu is ranked 2 in the world. This shows that the old fighter Saina i...

The stage is set for the biggest tennis stars to battle it out for the last tournament of the year the ATP World Tour Finals. This blog will predict Who will win the ATP World Tour Finals this year? The ATP World Tour finals will start from November 12 and all eyes will be on the two greats Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. In fact this is the first time in last 7 years the the top 2 players could be easily figured out.Otherwise this tournament is famous for its suspense for the champion.Since last 5-6 years it used to be a tough competiton between the big four with Wawrinka replacing Nadal ocassionally.Roger Federer holds the record for most number of titles in this tournament. The Swiss maestro has won 6 singles titles. He has been waiting to win this title for the seventh time for last six years. The most astonishing fact is Nadal has never won this tournament. He has been runner up in 2010 and 2013.This year Djokovic,Murray and Wawrinka have already pulled out of this tournament. T...

India Vs New Zealand:The key takeaways

After a thrilling T-20 match on Tuesday India won both the T-20 and One Day series against New Zealand. This blog will analyse this series against New Zealand. First of all before starting New Zealand deserve a pat on their back for pulling out such a well fought series.Getting India in trouble that too in India is very difficult to do but New Zealand have done an extraordinary job.Bot the final matches of series very very exciting. In fact it was New Zealand's game.It was only in the last few moments that India took charge.New Zealand could have won both the series will the quality of cricket they were playing. If I talk about the Indian team, the biggest performer is again Virat Kohli. With two centuries in the One Day series and a good supporting role in the T-20 series,he deserves full marks. But the cricketer who emerged in this series was Yujvendra Chahal. What a bowler he has become! With 4 wickets in 3 ODI and 3 wickets in T-20 he has now become a reliable bowler for the te...
